Aldo claims Reds should launch shock swoop for Spurs star to bolster attack

Writing in his column for the Irish Independent, former Red John Aldridge has boldy claimed the Reds should target Tottenham Hotspur attacking reinforcements naming Lucas Moura as an option.

Mentioning the departure of Daniel Strurridge, Aldo stressed the need for Jürgen Klopp to procure an “out-and-out goalscorer” to replace the rarely seen No. 15.

“So I wonder whether Lucas Moura could be prised away from Tottenham” – mused the former Republic of Ireland striker – “as he had to be a little bemused to be left out of their Champions League final starting line-up after he scored a fantastic hat-trick in the semi-final against Ajax.

“Moura is a tricky forward who could slot into the team if any of the front three were out and the same could be said of his team-mate Son Heung-min, although I would be surprised if Spurs allowed the South Korean to leave after his outstanding season.”

As we said, it’s nothing if not audacious from the Scouser and we doubt Spurs would be willing to sell their own comeback hero to those who vanquished them in this year’s Champions League final.

While he rightfully tempers the daring notion with the notion Moura would represent “alternative firepower” when our famous front three are lacking ideas, we still think Moura would be a long shot.

Hitting that hat-trick against Ajax for the North London side just a day after our unforgettable comeback against Barcelona, the Brazilian arrived at Spurs from PSG for around £28 million in January 2018.

The 26-year-old would likely cost a great deal more than that now and we’re not countenancing any predictions he would arrive at Anfield, especially since we broke their hearts in Madrid.

To be honest, if there was one Spurs players we could get our hands on it would be Aldo’s other quoted name, Son Heung-min, who has proved to be a game changer for Mauricio Pochettino’s men.

That transfer, too, is highly unlikely so we’ll wait and see how the transfer window plays out and start getting ready for the Reds pre-season fixtures in July.
