After winning the Champions League and claiming the Premier League’s Golden Glove award, you would be hard pressed to find anyone that would disagree Alisson’s big money move from Roma has 100% been worth it.
But it has left Simon Mignolet out of first team action once again and the Belgian will look to leave Anfield this summer as he seeks regular playing time.
That will force Jürgen Klopp to go out and buy a deputy ‘keeper and the Mirror are suggesting the Southampton stopper could be that man.

While the source is not necessarily a hugely reliable one, it does add to rumours McCarthy was considered as a goalkeeping option last summer when the deal for Alisson looked to be off the cards.
Thanfully we got out man, but, if these rumours are to believed, Klopp could end up getting the 29-year-old after all (albeit as a No. 2).
Deputising to Angus Gunn at St Mary’s since losing his place in February, McCarthy might not be keen on the idea of doing the same at Anfield.
Ralph Hassenhuttl’s decision to play Gunn over the former-Reading ‘keeper could, however, mean McCarthy might seek pastures new and joining the Reds would offer him the chance to win some silverware.
The issue is whether the Englishman is at the standard required of a team competing at the very highest level. After our fair share of goalkeeping nightmares, Alisson’s composure and commanding presence has finally exorcised those demons.
What we need is another goalkeeper with durability, the ability to play out from the back, and the skill to set off counters. Is Alex McCarthy that man? We’re not so sure.
