A series of events – that are probably quite likely peripheral to what is actually going on – have seen the Reds surprisingly linked with France star Kylian Mbappé recently.
The rumour gathered steam on Saturday when respected Times journalist, Paul Joyce, retweeted a video of the Frenchman’s first day of ‘vacation’ in the United States where he met with Liverpool minority shareholder and passionate Red, LeBron James.

That sent Reds’ imaginations running wild as some took it as a positive sign the 20-year-old would be heading to Anfield in this transfer window, while others ran with it as a bit of a joke.
Of course, “King James” is widely considered one of the greatest basketball players ever and Mbappé has spoken of his love for the sport so it could just be a bit of hero worship on his part.

47 goals and 12 assists for club and country this season alone, at 20-years-old Mbappé has set the world on fire for both PSG and France.
As the newly-crowned Champions of Europe, we’ve got the pedigree to attract the likes of Mbappé but it seems very, very unlikely that a transfer like this would go through this summer.
The Parisian cost PSG around £166 million after he completed a season-long loan from Monaco and, despite any other factors, the price alone is enough to dismiss the rumours. Plus, as top scorer in Ligue 1 this season with 33 goals, Mbappé has definitely paid back the faith the club have put in him.
So here’s what we know:
– Paul Joyce retweeted Mbappe’s video announcing he’s arrived in America
– In the video was Lebron James, a part owner in Liverpool FC, wearing a Liverpool cap
– Klopp is in the US
– Mbappe celebrated his first professional goal with the Sturridge dance— Josh (@KloppStyle) June 15, 2019
The Monaco season where announced himself to the stage saw him tally 15 goals and 11 assists in the league – if they shelled out that mammoth fee for him then, just imagine what he would cost now!
In any case, we think we can label this one under the “Absolutely yes, but it won’t happen” category unfortunately.
Besides, with Mo Salah, Sadio Mané, and Roberto Firmino we’ve already got one of the most fearsome forward lines in football.
