Ajax have placed a colossal valuation on reported Reds target

Ajax are demanding a fee of around £80 million for Brazilian forward David Neres, according to De Telegraaf journalist Marcel van der Kraan, who was speaking to the Sky Sports Transfer Talk podcast.

The Dutch football expert claims that they have already turned down £50 million from an unnamed Chinese side, with the bid being ‘immediately swept off the table’ by sporting director Marc Overmars.

Ajax are aware that they cannot sell and replace an entire team in one summer, and with Frenkie de Jong having already left the club for Barcelona, and Matthijs de Ligt, Andre Onana and Hakim Ziyech potentially following suit, they are desperate to keep some of their stars.

Neres is a Brazilian international and scored 12 times for his club last season. He was a big part of the side that got to the Champions League semi-finals and has obvious talent.

It makes sense for the Reds to be showing an interest – but it won’t turn into a solid bid at that price.
