Journo names two left-backs as LFC ‘type’ with club set to buy competition for Robbo

Liverpool are not going to do much business this summer – which does sadly makes the months before the new Premier League campaign quite slow!

But one position we have no choice but to strengthen is at left-back. With Alberto Moreno departing on a free transfer, where to yet, we’re not sure – the club has just one senior left-back on its books in Andy Robertson.

And while the Scot is arguably the best on the planet in his position, he cannot be expected to play every game in five competitions (Club World Cup included) next season.

Dean Jones of Bleacher Report has named two targets who could come and support Robbo in 2019/20.

“Think about the versatility and style of Junior Firpo of Real Betis or Philipp Max from FC Augsburg—this is the type of player Liverpool are looking to bring in,” he wrote in a long piece about our transfer targets yesterday.

Firpo is an exciting young player who did great things in La Liga last season. The 22-year-old registered three goals and four assists in 24 appearances. He’s very comfortable going forward and has a sweet left-foot.

Max is similarly aggressive going forward, but at 25, is three years Firpo’s senior. He racked up nice numbers for Augsburg in the Bundesliga and has caps for Germany.

We just hope to get someone who’s a bargain. There’s no point spending £30m+ on someone on the back of a good season who is only going to warm our bench.
