Klopp: Winning Champions League was just “the start” as trophy legacy beckons

“The most important thing for Liverpool fans, when reliving the memories of this season, is to remember it’s the start – not a conclusion.”

So writes Jürgen Klopp in the foreword to ‘The Official Story of Liverpool’s 2018-2019 Season’, a book review of the glorious season just gone, of which The Mirror have released some previewed lines.

“Madrid wasn’t the final chapter for us – I think we’re still writing the introduction,” Klopp adds.

“When we were travelling around Liverpool with the European Cup on that magical Sunday, the words I heard sung the loudest were: “We’re never gonna stop!”

“That’s what this team and club has to live by. We arrived at this point because we were hungry for moments like June 1.”

Becoming European champions in Madrid has finally allowed Klopp to lift silverware with the Reds after several ‘nearly’ finals, as well as his own personal bugbear of losing six straight as a manager.

His comments here suggest that this could be the start of a dynastic dominance for the Reds to rival our golden age of success.

“My players this year did remarkable things,” Jürgen rightfully stated.

“I called them mentality giants after we beat Barcelona (in the Champions League last four) – but that’s not saying enough. Skill, intelligence, emotion, fitness – they have it all.”

That said, far from resting on their laurels, Klopp will have his charges geared up and ready to do it all over again in the upcoming season with the seismic momentum gained from this season’s glory.

Ultimately, the fans are the most important part of this whole triumphant march and we all played our part in what has been achieved this year.

To us, Klopp said:“Take all the joy from this campaign and do so in the knowledge we want it again.

“Love the memories and use them to shape our future.”
