6’2″ Dutch centre back to undergo LFC medical this week – report

Liverpool are reportedly set to score their first signing of the transfer window in the form of 17-year-old Dutch defender Sepp van den Berg.

According to the Telegraph, the PEC Zwolle youngster is set to undergo his medical for the Reds as soon as tomorrow.

Liverpool were competing with the likes of Ajax and Bayern Munich to sign van den Berg, as per the same report, and will cost the Reds just shy of £2million.

This is a typical FSG signing as we’ve seen a number of young prospects turn up at Anfield and flourish into the starts they are today – not all of them go on to play for the first team, but they’re usually given their chance to shine.

Given the age of van den Berg, it’s safe to say that he’d be one for the future. His 20 senior appearances for Zwolle last season won’t go unnoticed though, and Jurgen Klopp may be willing to give him a chance in one of the domestic cups this season.

Liverpool, of course, already boast Virgil van Dijk at the heart of our defence, and also have other Dutch players in their first team squad including Georginio Wijnaldum and Ki Hoever so the young lad won’t be made to feel unwelcome in the dressing room.
