Liverpool urged to sign Man Utd target after confirming first summer transfer

Former Reds winger Jimmy Carter has urged Liverpool to sign Leicester midfielder James Maddison after the club confirmed its first transfer of the summer in Sepp van den Berg.

Maddison scored seven goals last season and totted up the same number in assists, and has been subject of interest from Manchester United.

Reds manager Jurgen Klopp has insisted that the club doesn’t plan on spending big this summer, but big-money moves for players like Nabil Fekir and Maddison linger.

James Maddison seems like a perfect fit for Liverpool,” Carter told The James Gray Show on Love Sport Radio.

For me if Liverpool were to get him, they’re talking about £70-75million. I would pay £100million to get James Maddison into the midfield at Liverpool, and he would be an instant success.

He would be a remarkable player and acquisition for Liverpool FC – I would love to see James Maddison slot into that midfield.

Because what you’ve got is the likes of Fabinho, Henderson who are more holding midfield players, not really renowned for their creativity – even though Henderson is showing more creativity now than he has before.

It’s true that Liverpool have been calling out for a creative midfielder since the departure of Philippe Coutinho, but with injures to players like Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita, it’s unfair to suggest the current squad have had a fair crack.

Maddison would be a great addition to Klopp’s squad, but I can’t see him pushing for a move away from Leicester just yet – if he does, it’ll probably be for a mega-money move to either of the Manchester clubs.
