Reds’ Brazilian midfielder extends loan spell until end of the season

Reds midfielder, Allan Rodrigues de Souza (or just Allan) has extended his loan deal at Fluminense in the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A until the end of December.

The 22-year-old moved to the Brazilian side back in February and was expected to remain there until the end of the season; now, however, the two clubs have reached a consensus and he will stay until the end of the year.

Allan initially joined the Reds for £500,000 back in September 2015, and has previously been sent out on loan to SJK, Sint-Truidense, Hertha BSC, Apollon Limassol and Eintracht Frankfurt.

The Reds are still trying to secure a work permit for the box-to-box midfielder, with his previous loan to Eintracht Frankfurt an attempt to give the Brazilian a better chance of being given one.

Allan does not yet satisfy the criteria to play in the UK and it was hoped that regular playing time in the Bundesliga would tick the box by demonstrating he has played in one of Europe’s top leagues.

However, he managed just four appearances with the 2017/18 German Cup winners, partly due to injury, and his loan spell was cut short in January. He moved to Fluminense around two weeks later and has since started ten of their past 13 games in all competitions.

Having seemingly impressed top brass back in his native Brazil, the Reds loanee will see out the rest of the Brasileiro season which comes to a close in December.

After that, Jürgen Klopp will have to make another choice on Allan when January of next year rolls round.
