There just 35 days to end of the 2019 summer transfer window and Liverpool are yet to sign a single senior player. But the fans are not complaining and this is simply because the excitement over winning the UEFA Champions League hasn’t died down. Also because the current Liverpool squad is quite solid and do not need much addition.
Couple of weeks ago, there were reports linking Liverpool to the signing of Matthijs de Ligt of Ajax but nothing came out of that rumour. Signing the Dutchman would have made a lot of sense. A partnership of he and his fellow Dutchman Virgil van Dijk would have made Liverpool’s defence the best in the whole world. Unfortunately it appears the highly rated youngster is on his way to Juventus.
Aside Matthijs de Ligt, Liverpool were also linked with the signing of Nicolas Pepe. Nicolas Pepe is one of the most in demand players this summer and it is not a surprise that the likes of Manchester City, Juventus, Bayern Munich and Arsenal have all been linked with his signing. Unfortunately Lille reportedly want 90 million Euros for him and for this reason I do not see Liverpool signing him.
The reds have as a matter of fact reportedly told a couple of journalist that the Ivorian is not of interest. Nicolas Pepe is actually very good but let’s face it, Liverpool can’t not afford to spend such an among on a player who had his breakthrough season last season. And this is aside the fact that the Reds already have Mane, Salah, Firmino and Chamberlain who can play in the positions Pepe plays in.
While on twitter searching for live stream football to watch today, I came across the report by L’Equipe ( via Daily Express ) claiming Liverpool are interested in signing Ousmane Dembele. And that’s one link I find interesting. The Frenchman is reportedly one of the players Jurgen Klopp wants to sign this summer. According to French media outlet L’Equipe, both Liverpool and Bayern Munich are working on signing the 22-year-old from Barca.
With Barca likely to complete the signing of Griezmann from Atletico Madrid this week, Dembele will find play chances hard to come back at Barca and could consider moving away from the Catalonian club side. A move to Liverpool who have long term interest in him would make a lot sense. The reports claim Liverpool are looking to do an initial loan deal with an option ( not obligation which makes it even more interesting ) to buy.
Signing Dembele on loan would make more sense than taking the risk on Pepe at 90 million Euros. If Liverpool signs Dembele on loan and he flops, he can easily be returned back to his parent club Barca like Arsenal did with Dennis Suarez.
