Reds star set to be fit for pre-season amid fresh AFCON injury concerns

Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita sustained a minor hip strain during African Cup of Nations duty with Guinea, but is expected to be available for selection for the Reds’ upcoming pre-season.

The injury ended our number eight’s international tournament, and he has returned to Melwood for further medical examination by the club’s staff.

Keita is expected to feature in Liverpool’s pre-season a the tail end of July, the club has confirmed – putting to bed early concerns that the midfielder may miss the start of the 2019/20 Premier League season.

Our number eight was rushed back into the national side as he’s the standout superstar in his team – and Jurgen Klopp will likely be furious at the latest injury Keita has sustained at AFCON.

National teams and clubs rarely see eye to eye when it comes to players’ fitness – put simply, nations seem to favour short-term outlooks while clubs will focus on long-term setbacks.

It’s a real shame for Naby, and fans of the Guinea national team, but he’ll be able to kick-start his summer break, properly nurse his injury, and get back fresh for next season.
