Liverpool legend backs Reds star to become Anfield great

Legendary former Liverpool goalkeeper Ray Clemence has suggested Alisson could go down as an Anfield great, and has likened the goalkeeper’s impact on the squad to that of Virgil van Dijk.

He’s proved this year he’s a great goalkeeper. Truly great ones, the legends, continue to do that for the next five, 10 years,he told Sky Sports.

But he’s had a great start. With foreign players, it’s partly down to how long they and their families want to stay at a club. Hopefully yes, but only they can make that call.

Questions were asked of the goalkeeper when he signed for the Reds for just under £70million – the most expensive stopper of all time, before Kepa signed for Chelsea in the same window.

He answered his critics on the field – the Brazilian kept 21 clean sheets in the Premier League and was awarded the Golden Glove for his efforts.

Alisson also kept the most amount of clean sheets in the Champions League, and is the goalkeeper with the most clean sheets in the Copa America (before the competition is even completed).

That’s three ‘Golden Gloves’. The Reds stopper is now the first goalkeeper in the history of the game to be the best in three competitions in a single campaign.

For nine games on the spin now, he’s kept only clean sheets. If he continues this kind of form, he may very well go down as one of the greatest the game has ever seen.
