Coutinho’s agent makes huge claim about ex-Red’s immediate future

Philippe Coutinho’s agent, Kia Joorabchian, has spoken out on his client’s future and insisted that the former Red will be staying at Barcelona this summer.

Speaking to RMC Sport, Joorabchian declared: “I talked a few days ago with Pep Segura (Barca’s general manager) at Barcelona.

“He told me that the club does not want to sell Coutinho this summer, no matter what.”

While, on purported links to a switch from La Liga to Ligue 1, he claimed, “We have not had any contact with PSG.”

Joorabchian’s comments to the French media suggest that Coutinho’s immediate future will be at Camp Nou for the time being. The PSG link had emerged as a possiblity, with Neymar going the other way in a high-profile swap deal – an idea entertained by Tim Vickery in comments to Sky Sports.

His £142 million move to Barça has not gone as expected and the 27-year-old has since been linked with a departure from the Catalan capital.

A mooted transfer back to Liverpool have been met with contrasting responses; however, what is indubitable is that his transfer – the third-most expensive fee in history – has been reinvested to massive success with the acquisitions of Alisson Becker and Virgil van Dijk.

There have also been suggested links to transfer banned-Chelsea, bitter rivals Manchester United (since apparently dispelled), and PSG which have left a cloud of doubt hanging over the Brazilian’s next career steps.
