Imminent transfer heightens need for LFC to fix problem position

Alberto Moreno has already departed Liverpool – and it very much looks like the Spaniard is set to put pen to paper with a new club.

According to Spanish outlet AS, Villarreal have won the race for his signature, and will confirm the deal next week – having already signed Raul Albiol and Rubén Peña this summer.

But as they secure our former deputy left-back, we are still very much without an adequate understudy to Andy Robertson.

The Scot is world-class and arguably the best on the planet in his position right now – but in many ways – herein lies the problem!

Few players of genuine quality will want to come in and sit on the bench behind Robbo, especially considering how few opportunities Moreno was given by Jurgen Klopp over the past 18 months.

We cannot afford to enter the 2019/20 season without a new left-back, but securing one is proving trickier.

The new campaign starts in around 30 days, but there’s been no concrete links to potential left-back signings yet.

Adam Lewis is our U23 left-back, and highly rated, while James Milner has shown an ability to do a job in the role plenty of times before.

However, with Liverpool targeting four regular competitions and the Club World Cup, another proper left-back is, for us, an absolute necessity.
