Journo makes massive Alisson call – but the facts suggest he’s got a point

Italian journalist Tancredi Palmeri took to Twitter last night to suggest Liverpool and Brazil goalkeeper Alisson should be in contention for the Ballon d’Or.

The reporter was reacting to Brazil’s victory in the Copa America, meaning our stopper has won an international trophy and the Champions League this past six weeks!

In doing so, the 26-year-old becomes the first goalkeeper in history to win three Golden Gloves in one season. Alisson racked up the most clean-sheets in the Premier League and the Champions League for Liverpool – and the most for Brazil in the Copa.

In total, Ali kept 36 clean-sheets – the exact same number as goals he conceded for club and country.

So with that in mind, Palmeri’s claim perhaps seems a little less farfetched!

Sadly for our stopper, however, he’s up against Virgil van Dijk for the individual award – and it’s looking unlikely anyone will be able to beat the Dutchman to the crown.

But two Liverpool players fighting for the Ballon d’Or? Not a bad place to be!
