“Special”: Comments from Harvey Elliott’s former boss and teammate should get Reds fans very excited

The signing of 16-year-old Harvey Elliott is deemed a coup by almost everyone who knows him.

Former coach Slavisa Jokanovic, who has since been sacked by Fulham, absolutely raved about him when he gave him his senior debut back in September 2018. Elliott was only 15 at the time.

Speaking to the Evening Standard, Jokanovic said: “He is arrogant in a positive way. This kid shows the personality. He says, ‘I want to show you I am a very good player’.”

Teammate Floyd Ayite, who Elliott replaced as he made his senior debut in that match against Millwall in the Carabao Cup, was just as effusive in his praise.

He added: “He’s special. A quality player and a special kid. I think his future is going to be bright. He was looking around the [dressing] room and the pitch, learning from us. He has a good mentality and is going to go far.”

By the sounds of it, we’ve got ourselves a really talented player with a top attitude – the perfect mix. Klopp regards him so highly that he’s going straight to Melwood to train with the first team from day one, rather than heading to the Academy first, so there’s a clear plan of getting him time on the pitch sooner rather than later.

He might not be a top-class, ready-made talent coming in for a massive fee, but alongside Sepp van den Berg, the Reds have brought in a couple of players who could make a real difference in the coming seasons. Fans should certainly be excited about the duo.
