How the Reds could line up at Tranmere as pre-season gets underway

Pre-season games are always more about improving fitness and getting into shape than anything else, but much attention will be focused on Prenton Park tomorrow evening as the Reds kick-off against Tranmere Rovers.

Predicting the line-up this early in the campaign is no easy task, with almost every player who has been back at Melwood this week set to get some time on the field.

Simon Mignolet is expected to return to Merseyside today, and he will start in goal with other options like Alisson still not back from international duty, and Caoimhin Kelleher injured.

Youngsters like Bobby Duncan and Paul Glatzel will be hoping to get minutes, but they will probably begin the game on the bench, while Adam Lewis could get the chance to make an impression at left-back.

Other options include the likes of Curtis Jones, Joel Matip and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain who are all back in training. All three are expected to get time on the pitch at Prenton Park, whether that’s from the start or off the bench.

It is likely that Jurgen Klopp will field almost two entirely different sides in each half, with no outfield player ready to play a full 90 minutes just yet. There will be a further chance to get time on the pitch when the Reds head to Bradford on Sunday afternoon.

Potential starting XI: Mignolet; Clyne, Gomez, Lovren, Lewis; Fabinho, Lallana, Oxlade-Chamberlain; Wilson, Brewster, Kent
