Reliable journalist names potential price-tag for any incoming Reds attacking signing

Liverpool will only spend up to about £20 million on any versatile attacker that could potentially come into Anfield this summer, choosing not to splurge huge amounts on back-up for the front three.

That’s according to David Maddock of the Daily Mirror, who says the club have changed their stance compared to last summer, believing that the huge transfer fees splashed out on Alisson, Virgil van Dijk and Naby Keita in the last couple of windows are not necessary this time around.

Sepp van den Berg and Harvey Elliott have already come in, but there is not expected to be much more business, if any. For many fans, that’s a huge risk – but at the same time, Jurgen Klopp and Michael Edwards deserve to be trusted for the previous record with transfer decisions.

Maddock explained that rather than spending big, the Reds are looking to spend smarter, using their analytics and scouting to identify the next Matthijs de Ligt or Kylian Mbappe, rather than splashing out the mega fees that would be required to sign the pair.

It remains the case that the Reds might not sign anyone else this summer – but if they do, it appears the transfer fee will be relatively small in the current market climate.
