Klopp refuses to “play down” Brewster as youngster primed for big LFC future

Writing in the Evening Standard, David Lynch has suggested that Jürgen Klopp’s reluctance to temper the burgeoning reputation of young star, Rhian Brewster, could be evidence as to just how highly the German rates the 19-year-old.

After scoring a brace in the Reds first pre-season friendly against Tranmere Rovers, Brewster further added to that reputation as he looks to be primed for first-team action in the 2019/20 season.

In his post-match questioning, Klopp, buoyed by the 6-0 win he had just witnessed was asked whether he might want to downplay Brewster’s accomplishments on the pitch.

“Why should I play [it] down?” Klopp assertively responded. “I saw a really good game and Rhian is a fantastic player, that is the only thing I want to talk about.

“We can talk about Rhian, no problem, I don’t want to play him down or it down.”

Where other managers might try to protect or shield their youngest stars from the sometimes harsh exposure of the outside world, it seems that Klopp’s bold acceptance of Brewster’s prowess demonstrates just how ready he is for senior-side involvement.

It’s hardly a new thing either, to be honest. As Lynch also states, it’s long-been the case that Klopp has jumped at the opportunity to talk up his promising attacking prospect.

Klopp is professedly the most credulous of the hype-believers, but many within Melwood have also watched Brewster’s development and feel that he could have a long and successful career with the Reds.

That said – and with all due respect, of course – it’s a pre-season friendly against Tranmere Rovers and the teenager has yet to feature for the first-team after an 18-month rehabilitation period following some serious injuries.

Although, many fans are firmly on the side of Klopp when it comes to Brewster, and feel that his inexperience belies how good he will actually be once the 2018/19 season comes around.

He’s shown substantial amounts of resolve to come back from such a serious injury, to continually impress Klopp, and to produce such sparkling performances nearly every time he gets out onto the pitch.

With the sky seemingly the limit for the young Brewster its an exciting time to be a Reds fan with such considerable talent ready, and rolling, straight out of the Academy.
