LFC forward picks up untimely injury which could wreck pre-season

Watching Liverpool defeat Tranmere 6-0 last night was a fairly relaxed and enjoyable affair, but there was one moment that left us feeling pretty down.

Youngster Paul Glatzel was making his first-team debut, but sadly went down late in the second-half and had to be withdrawn from action.

After the game, Jurgen Klopp said that the injury wasn’t good and that Glatzel, who scored over 30 goals for the U18s last season, could miss the majority of pre-season – as per Read Liverpool.

It’s doubly disappointing for the prodigy, as his partner in crime, Bobby Duncan, remained on the field and scored our last goal.

As a result, Duncan will get another opportunity to impress on Sunday, while Glatzel is on the treatment table.

Football is a cruel game sometimes – and this piece of bad luck for the 18-year-old could set him back in his development – although we obviously hope to see him fit as soon as possible.

There’s a number of teenagers who shone v Tranmere, however, and the future is looking incredibly bright.

Rhian Brewster is a genuine first-team option and proved as much with his brace; Ki-Jana Hoever is a tremendous talent and we’ve just signed Harvey Elliott – arguably the best 16-year-old in Europe right now.
