Liverpool linked with unexpected move for Ligue 1 star forward

The Reds have been linked with a move for Lyon star winger Maxwell Cornet by Liverpool Echo journalist Theo Squires.

The reporter confirms that Liverpool are in the market for a versatile forward this summer, and strongly suggests that Cornet could very well be that man.

The 22-year-old forward told beIN Sports that he’s flattered by the rumours circulating. The Daily Mail has recently reported on our apparent interest in the rising star.

Liverpool seem to have turned their attention to Lyon, and away from Southampton, as the Reds are reported to have interest in Nabil Fekir, Memphis Depay, Tanguy Ndombele and Houssem Aouar as well.

I did not say I want to leave,” Cornet told beIN Sports. “We met [Jean-Michel Aulas] in January, and I said I want to extend [my contract], but talks were not successful.

Liverpool are a big club – any links are flattering. My contract is until 2021, but you never know in football.

Cornet had to play a bit-part role for Lyon last season with Depay, Moussa Dembele and Bertrand Traore hitting it off as an attacking trio for the French giants.

The winger is more than capable of contributing to Liverpool’s team as he managed to register 12 goals in just 12 starts for Lyon in Ligue 1 last season.
