Ticket boost means Reds will heavily outnumber Chelsea in UEFA Super Cup

After originally being allocated 4,957 tickets for the UEFA Super Cup clash against Chelsea, the Reds have had their request granted and will be presented with a further 1,016 tickets for the showdown at Besiktas’ Vodafone Park on August 14th.

It amounts to an increase of about 20% and a total of 5,973 tickets. This also means that there will be far more Liverpool fans than Chelsea supporters out in Turkey, with Frank Lampard’s side requesting just 1,314 tickets.

With a very rough calculation, for every 130 Chelsea fans there will be around 600 Reds fans.

The initial tickets were quick to sell out and, despite the number of tickets itself being questionable, the fact that UEFA have made more tickets available is at least some good news.

There has been a reduction in capacity at Vodafone Park for the fixture – from 41,000 to 38,000 – but all outstanding seats at the stadium have been sold to the general public via UEFA’s official website.

LFC given advantage over Chelsea for UEFA Super Cup

After booking our place in the Super Cup final by beating Tottenham in Madrid’s Champions League final for No. 6 – Chelsea are there by virtue of beating the rivals of the runners-up, Arsenal, in the Europa League final.

A win in Istanbul (of all places) will see the Reds lift a fourth Super Cup in what will be our sixth (of all numbers) appearance in the fixture.

Chelsea have won it twice and this will be the fourth time they’ve played in it.

We last won it in 2005 after the miracle in Istanbul saw us qualify and we beat CSKA Moscow 3-1 in Monaco. It will be the perfect way for Klopp and the Reds to get our season off to a silver-lined start!
