Fekir closes on €22m deal to underdogs in one of summer’s shock deals

The Nabil Fekir saga seems to be arriving at a long awaited end, Reds.

But the French World Cup winner is not moving to Merseyside, but instead, and rather oddly considering how highly he was rated last summer, Real Betis!

That’s according to journalist Romain Collet-Gaudin, a respected journalist who works for Canal Plus and EuroSport.

He says that a deal with Lyon, worth between €22m and €25m, has been agreed – and that the transfer will be finalised after the departure of Giovani Lo Celso – who according to the Mirror – is signing for Spurs for £70m.

When you consider the money Spurs are about to spend on Real Betis’s Argentine, £19m for Fekir is an outrageous bargain – regardless of his ambiguous knee issues.

Of course, the 26-year-old’s contract expires next year, so Lyon are in a position where they have to sell now.

If Liverpool wanted Fekir, we imagine he’d have jumped at the chance to join the Champions League winners rather than Betis, who finished 10th in La Liga last season.

But the fact he’s moving to Spain and not joining Jurgen Klopp’s Reds, is proof that our interest in him well and truly died the moment we spotted his knee problem in the medical.
