Jurgen Klopp expects Liverpool starlet to become ‘big gun’ at Anfield

Jurgen Klopp is known for giving youth a chance at his team, and Liverpool is no exception as Rhian Brewster has found out over the last few weeks.

The England U23s international has enjoyed himself on the pre-season tour so far, and will be giving the boss something to think about after netting three times in 90 minutes across the two games.

Other youngsters – notably Curtis Jones, Bobby Duncan, Adam Lewis and Yasser Larouci – have also been given chances by Klopp, but Brewster looks a very special talent.

That being said, he is still just a teenager and we shouldn’t put too much pressure on him. He’s likely to inherit Daniel Sturridge’s minutes this season, and it’ll be exciting to see him kick on.

You know how it is in football, it’s pre-season, he’s still very young,Klopp said of Brewster to the club’s official website. He has expectations, I have expectations. He has expectations and that’s good, it’s absolutely good.

The thing is, the Premier League is the Premier League and we need to make sure he is ready for that. We think he is ready, to be honest, but we have to see when and how often and stuff like this.

He was injured for a long time. He is a fantastic footballer, we fought really hard for getting him and then keeping him and all that stuff. Now he is here and I think he sees the chance, the chance is there and that’s very good.

He is an exceptionally good boy and player and I am really excited about the future, but there is not pressure at all on him.

The big guns are not in and we are all focused and the boys and stuff like that, but don’t put pressure on him. I think he can deal with it because he is a really confident boy.

But to be a real Premier League striker you have to miss a chance in front of 50,000, hear the noise, feeling the importance and then if you go again, you have a good chance to be a really big gun.

It’s boss to hear the manager talking about one of the brightest prospects at the club in such a way – it’ll fill some of the young lads in the Academy with confidence that they’ll get their chance one day.

Brewster is likely to feature a lot in the FA and League cups this season, but was included in the Reds’ squad for the Champions League last year.

With Divock Origi signing a new deal, it’s unclear how often Brewster will actually get on the field, but, considering his injury last year, I don’t think he’ll mind if it’s just a handful of games for the senior team for now.
