Liverpool urged to sign £40million-rated defender as cover for Robertson

Liverpool have been urged to sign Fulham full back Ryan Sessegnon to rotate with Scotland international Andrew Robertson by Reds legend Steve Nicol.

ESPN pundit Nicol certainly thinks that’s the case. “Still a teenager,” Nicol said, as quoted by the Express.

Well he [wouldn’t be] starting, he’s pushing. He’s there to push and he’s there to make the eleven that start better.

He’s still a teenager, still has a lot to learn, but, what, in two or three years time, he’s pushing Robertson or anybody else down that left-hand side.

The left back is into the last year of his contract at Craven Cottage, and has been subject of interest from Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur.

This is purely speculation, of course, but Alberto Moreno has just left the club and we likely need someone to fill in for Robertson now and then.

A new left-back needs to be better defensively than Alby, but content to wait for his opportunities, while also pushing the Scotland skipper in training – the young Englishman could be the answer.

Sessegnon is an excellent option for Liverpool, if he’s up for the move. The youngster is out of contract next summer too – so we may even be able to sneak in there.

The only issue would be any club that’s willing to cough up the £40million that Fulham are reportedly asking for, as per the Express.
