Reds tipped to move for €50 million Spanish defender who’s been linked with Anfield switch before

Liverpool have been named by El Mundo Deportivo as one of three Premier League clubs who hold serious interest in Real Sociedad defender Diego Llorente.

It’s not the first time that Llorente’s name has popped up – we’ve reported on links to him in the past – which might suggest there is something in the rumours. Spurs and West Ham are the other two teams supposedly sniffing around him at the moment.

Whether the Reds would be looking to sign a central defender this summer, though, seems somewhat unlikely.

Dejan Lovren is now expected to stay put having been linked with a move to AC Milan, and the Croatian leaving would surely be the only scenario that would see Jurgen Klopp look for another centre-back. With a €50 million release clause, Llorente would not come cheap, either.

It’s not one that we can see happening this summer, but perhaps if he was to move to another Premier League side and prove hiomself there first, the Reds could be tempted to go back for him at some point in the future.

With the fairly frequent links to Llorente, who is highly rated, it is not implausible that he is on the radar, although he’s not likely to be an immediate priority.
