Eden Hazard’s words on Reds man underline his world-class status

Real Madrid’s Eden Hazard has been speaking about some of the best players he has played against – naming Virgil van Dijk as someone who stood out for him in particular.

The former Chelsea man always seemed to play well against the Reds – especially at Anfield – but he says that Van Dijk was one of the very best he came up against.

Hazard was asked whether he was scared of any player he has faced during his career so far.

He was never going to admit that, however, via the Daily Mirror, he said: “No-one. No-one. But to be fair, in the Premier League we have a lot of good defenders, especially this season Van Dijk was on fire. That’s why he got PFA Player of the Year.

“He’s really good. He’s strong. I remember we played Liverpool away and I was striker, and I tried to jump against him and fell. No chance!”

No Liverpool fan needs reminding how good Van Dijk is. In fact, he’s now the favourite to win the Ballon d’Or, so no football fan at all needs reminding of that.

Having made his pre-season 2019 debut against Borussia Dortmund at the Notre Dame Stadium, hopefully we’ll get to see a bit more of Van Dijk tomorrow against Sevilla.
