Jordan Henderson’s selfless act during Dortmund pre-season game shows how valued Rhian Brewster is

Rhian Brewster has revealed that Reds captain Jordan Henderson was set to take the penalty kick against Borussia Dortmund last night, only for him to offer it to the young striker last-minute.

When Ben Woodburn was brought down inside the box, normal penalty taker James Milner had already been taken off. Instead, it was Brewster who stepped up, dispatching a simply brilliant penalty into the top corner.

By giving Brewster the spot kick, Henderson was showing huge faith in the young player. Of course, it was only a friendly, but Brewster still needed to hold his nerve and be confident enough to convert it – and Henderson rightly had no doubts that he was capable.

It shows just how valued Brewster is by the senior Reds players that Henderson felt comfortable handing him the ball. The England youth international could be set for a big season this coming campaign – and we can’t wait to see how he develops.
