We would have quite liked to get some odds on Andy Lonergan starting a game for Liverpool in 2019 a few months back.
They would have been absurdly long and we’d be in the money right now!
Tonight against Sevilla, the 35-year-old Englishman, who is only on trial to help with our current goalkeeping shortage, is starting at Fenway Park in Boston.
Lonergan’s last club was Rochdale, but tonight he’ll make an appearance, if not a competitive one, for Liverpool – the current holders of the Champions League.
With Alisson still on holiday, the coaching team decided it smart to get another body in to help at training, but we were not expecting Lonergan to get many minutes in the friendlies.
We wish the veteran plenty of luck! Perhaps if he impresses in pre-season we’ll offer him a short-term deal as our third-choice keeper, behind Alisson and Simon Mignolet, who is on the bench this evening.

I thought Lonergan was just a goalkeeping coach.
