Virgil van Dijk did not hold anything back after the Boston friendly against Sevilla last night, in which teammate Yasser Larouci was horribly scythed down by Joris Gnagnon.
It is no exaggeration to suggest that Larouci’s leg could have been broken – and you can see the crazy challenge for yourself by clicking here.
After the game was over, Van Dijk and some of his teammates, including captain Jordan Henderson, confronted Gnagnon, who has since apologised. That shouldn’t take away from the disgraceful nature of his behaviour, however.
According to Goal.com, Van Dijk said post-match that it “says something about” the French defender – a personal comment, but one which shows how angry the whole team were that Larouci was hurt.
Spoke to @VirgilvDijk briefly outside Fenway Park.
"To put in a tackle like that, especially on a young player who has been doing so well in pre-season, I think it says something about him…"#LFC

It’s very rare to see a tackle as bad as that one, not least in what should have been a friendly game. Hopefully, the injury that Larouci sustained is not too serious – he’d been having a superb pre-season to that point.
