Reds man hints at wanting to extend Anfield stay as he offers update on contract situation

James Milner says the ball is in Liverpool’s court when it comes to him extending his contract at the club.

Milner has a year left on his deal and says no discussions have taken place as of yet – though it does sound like he wants to stick around.

Via ESPN, he explained: “As it stands, last year we spoke to the club and asked them if they wanted to do something and they said not at that time.

“We haven’t heard anything since, so that’s where we are at. In terms of where I am with my contract, that’s what has happened up until now and I haven’t heard anything from the club.”

There was some talk that he would leave and head to Leeds United if they got promoted, but there doesn’t appear to be a reason why he would leave the Reds while he’s still so important.

His experience and quality has been vital over the last couple of seasons – not to mention his versatility – and Jurgen Klopp is a huge fan of his.

The Reds will surely open talks again with him soon, even if it is just to offer him another year. Given his fitness levels, the end of his career is still some way off yet, and we’d love to see him stay at Anfield for a few more seasons.
