Andy Robertson speaks out on pre-season so far

Reds left back Andy Robertson says pre-season has been tough so far, but that it will get easier.

The Reds have lost both of their previous two matches – against Borussia Dortmund and Sevilla – and will be looking to bounce back against Sporting Lisbon in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Robertson says the main thing, though, is that he and his teammates are ready for the season proper when that gets underway again.

Speaking to SB Nation, he explained: “We’re just trying to get our touch back and our rhythm back and fitness of course, but it’s all about trying to combine it into one.

“You know if you can play in these scenes and be in these scenes, then you can probably play in anything. [We’re] just [trying] to get sharpness because we’re just a wee bit off that now and we need to try get up to that. Once we do I’m sure you’ll see a lot better football from us.”

The Community Shield is, perhaps, the first ‘proper’ game of the season. It normally wouldn’t be, but given we’ll be playing Manchester City at Wembley, it gives it a bit more edge ahead of a campaign where we’ll go head-to-head with them again.

Pre-season has been enjoyable so far, but we can’t wait for the proper games to get underway again – the players are probably the same now.
