Betis subtly troll Liverpool’s knee concerns after Fekir signing

Spanish club Real Betis completed the signing of Nabil Fekir last night, ending the Frenchman’s chances of moving from Lyon to Liverpool.

As we know all too well, Liverpool privately cited issues with the playmaker’s knee that arose during a medical – and we cancelled the marquee ‘Coutinho replacement’ at the last minute in 2018.

Fekir stayed in France, uninjured, enduring a slightly harder season than he did the year previous – arguably due to the collapse of his Anfield switch.

As Betis confirmed the deal, they shared an extra tweet, claiming Fekir is ‘in perfect medical condition,’ which in fairness to Liverpool fans online – has been met in the good nature it was meant.

We always thought the knee excuse was an odd one. Fekir played 49 games in 2016/17, 39 in 2017/18 and another 39 this season just gone – following his failed Liverpool medical.

When you compare that to, say, Adam Lallana’s availability over the same period, it’s chalk and cheese.

In reality, we think the knee may have been an excuse and Liverpool decided to pull the plug because of some other reason.

Anyway, we wish Fekir plenty of luck at Betis. It must have been horrible getting so close to signing for Liverpool, having it taken away from him and then watching us win the Champions League without him.

Tear up La Liga, Nabil!
