Winger says Jurgen Klopp encouraged him to leave this summer

Rafa Camacho, who moved to Sporting Lisbon this summer on a permanent deal, says Jurgen Klopp encouraged him to make the switch.

The young winger, who made his debut for the Reds’ first-team last season, only had 12 months remaining on his current deal, but he says that wasn’t the reason Klopp encouraged him to go.

Rather, Klopp wanted what was best for the Portuguese’s career.

Via Sport Witness, Camacho said: “I spoke to him in December, told him I had a chance to come back [to Sporting]. He said he knew but at that moment he didn’t want to let me go, because I was part of Liverpool’s plans.

“Before the summer I spoke to him again [and] told him that I wanted to go back to grow as a professional and he told me it was a great idea, that this would be the best club I could go to and that if I worked I would have my chance.”

Camacho could be a great player down the line, but in truth, he was never going to make many appearances for the Reds this season if he had stuck around.

It seems that he and Klopp decided on the best move for both parties at the right time – they’re always the best kinds of deals.
