Tom Werner explains how LFC will implement “nice new” transfer ideas for “stronger squad”

Under Fenway Sports Group, the Reds have flourished and regaining their impressive standing amongst the very best clubs in the world.

With FSG dictating play, Liverpool’s financial value has risen exponentially – from the initial sum they paid, the club is now worth a staggering $2.18 billion.

With the group’s senior figures – John W. Henry, Mike Gordon, Tom Werner, Billy Hogan et al. – the Reds have been able to prosper both on and off the pitch.

But it is Werner, LFC’s chairman under FSG, who discussed the future of the club in an wide-ranging interview with Liverpoolfc.com after the Sevilla match at Fenway Park.

“We have seen what other things we can do to make the squad even stronger and there we will be some nice new ideas that we will implement,” Werner revealed.

“Billy Hogan (Liverpool’s chief commercial officer) has engineered a growth in our sponsorships that has really helped us build a stronger squad. It has helped us make the decision to move to a better training ground at Kirkby.

“The stronger we are commercially, the stronger we can be on the pitch.

“In some ways, it’s a virtuous circle. If we are strong commercially we can support a stronger squad, and if it’s stronger and successful squad it increases Liverpool’s ability to create revenue so we can put it back in the team.”

It is crystal-clear: the more commercially successful the Reds are, the more success they will find on the pitch. It’s perhaps somewhat hard-nosed and businesslike, but it is reality.

Equally, FSG themselves are an ownership abundantly expressive of how important the fans are to the operation. Rather than a cold, detached system of rule, FSG are dedicated, attentive, and intent on making Liverpool the most successful club it can be in their hands.

It’s a far cry from previous owners (the less said the better).

With new sponsorship deals being announced, the Anfield coffers are in rude health. If Werner’s comments are to be taken at face value, it sounds like any potential transfers are there to be made if Klopp so wishes.

Equally, with the squad he and FSG have built together, anticipated victories in the upcoming season will only drive up the club’s aggregate value going forward, ensuring that cycle of success keeps turning.
