Carra names the two Reds players stopping the club making signings & states what all Reds fans are thinking

Jamie Carragher says Jurgen Klopp is taking a huge risk heading into the new season without signing any more players – echoing the thoughts of Reds fans everywhere.

While admitting that Klopp has a tough balancing act on his hands to keep the current squad happy but also continue the progression following being named European champions, Carragher says he would feel uncomfortable if the Reds started the season with no new arrivals, as appears set to be the case.

Speaking to Off The Ball, Carragher said: “I’d like them to bring someone in. I still think we’re a little bit short at left-back. [Alberto] Moreno’s gone.

“I still think a creative midfield player [is needed but] the front three is a difficult one for managers and clubs when you’ve got such a set front three.”

No one can argue with those comments, though it’s important to back the club in whatever they choose to do. Feeling frustrated is understandable, but once the season begins, there can be no moaning.

Carragher says the club has even more of a problem because of two players: last year’s hero Divock Origi and wonderkid Rhian Brewster.

He added: “Origi has just signed a new contract so they will have had to promise him a lot of chances. The same with Brewster. I think he was maybe looking at moving abroad [last year] like a lot of young English players now.

“In some ways, they’ve got to give these players a chance. I understand from a manager’s point of view it’s not easy.”

We think the Reds should be signing more players as well – but we’ve thought that in the past and been proven wrong by Klopp. Hopefully the same will happen this year and some more silverware can be collected over the coming months.
