Newcastle owner Mike Ashley claims to have unbelievably good news for the Reds

Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley is hated by most Magpies fans – but he might have some very good news for Liverpool.

The Sports Direct owner spoke to the Daily Mail on Saturday, speaking about a range of issues. One of the things that came up was shirt sponsorship, and he claimed the Reds could sign a deal worth £100 million soon.

In May 2018, it was claimed by Sports Pro Media that Standard Chartered, the current Reds’ shirt sponsors, had secured a four-year deal worth a total of £160 million, so a £100 million renewal would not be until 2022.

Ashley claimed that he would only be able to secure £10 million per year for Newcastle, meaning a £90 million gap to those at the top.

If that is indeed true, that would mean more money available to be pumped into the club which can go towards things like Anfield’s expansion and further investment into the playing squad.

FSG have done an exceptional job of transforming the fortunes of the club off the pitch, which leads to success on it too.

The kit deal with New Balance expires next summer and that is set to be vastly increased with a new manufacturer, while the number of partners the club have has increased massively under chief commercial officer Billy Hogan.
