Reds confirm return date for crucial trio

Liverpool have officially confirmed that Mo Salah, Roberto Firmino and Alisson will return for pre-season training on Monday, as per the club’s official website.

All three had extended breaks following international duty, taking three weeks or so off to recuperate ahead of the new campaign.

Salah represented his nation at a home Africa Cup of Nations, while Firmino and Alisson were crucial members of the Brazil squad that won the Copa America, beating Peru 3-1 in the final.

Having played two pre-season matches on home soil – against Tranmere Rovers and Bradford City – the Reds then travelled to the US for three games there. Next up is Napoli in Scotland tomorrow night, meaning Salah, Firmino and Alisson will have missed six matches in all.

The squad will meet up in Evian following the Napoli fixture for a training camp before playing Lyon on Wednesday night.

All three are likely to feature in that game, although perhaps only for half of the match, where they will need to prove their fitness ahead of the Community Shield against Manchester City next weekend.

It will be great to see them back – and having the confirmation that they are almost back in training makes the season feel even closer around the corner than it already did.

With some mixed results so far in pre-season, Jurgen Klopp will be glad to have the extra quality back in the squad and available.
