Reds legend names the player who has stood out for him this pre-season

Former Liverpool defender Sami Hyypia says Rhian Brewster has been the man to make most impact so far this pre-season.

With the likes of Mo Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane not back following international duty, an opportunity has arisen for all of the reserve options in the Reds’ forward line.

While Ryan Kent, and to a lesser extent Harry Wilson, have not taken their chance, the same cannot be said for Brewster, who was the top scorer at the U17 World Cup for England prior to his injury lay-off last year.

Speaking to Liverpool Offside, Hyypia explained: “It’s been a great opportunity for the younger players to get on the field in front of the big crowds with the senior players, and hopefully one or two of them will have made a case for themselves to get involved with the first team.

“Rhian Brewster, in particular, showed that he is a natural goalscorer with four goals in his first three games. He stood out for me in these games.”

Still only 19, Brewster has certainly made an impression, with most fans seeing him properly for the first time this summer.

He always impressed while coming through at the Academy, but after such a serious injury setback, it was never known whether he would be able to click into gear immediately upon his return. Any questions over that have definitely now been erased.
