Kent’s future decided after Klopp rules out loan in post-Napoli disclosure

Ryan Kent was absent for the Reds pre-season defeat to Napoli at Murrayfield due to a virus, but its the condition of his tenure at Anfield that Jürgen Klopp spoke about once the 90 minutes were up in Edinburgh.

“His time is over for loans,” Klopp decisively claimed. At the age he is now, he needs to find a place where he can settle. We will see what happens but a loan is not planned.”

“He came back as a completely different player and it was a very important year for him,” the boss said of Kent’s time with Steven Gerrard at Rangers.

“It helped being with a good manager, at a good club, with good competition, and it was exactly the right thing for him at the right moment.”

Incidentallly, since the Reds were up in Scotland, the 22-year-old’s time at Ibrox yielded six goals, the PFA Scotland Young Player of the Year award, and further boosts to his reputation.

However, the BBC Sport report suggests Kent would be available for just £8 million, just two thirds of what his original price tag was thought it be.

Having featured in previous pre-season games, Kent’s future remains in doubt. With this conclusive revelation that he will not be listed for any loan moves, it seems that Klopp is then putting him up for sale, not necessarily intimating he will keep him around the club.

While the BBC comments seem to elide that fact, Neil Jones’ quotation of Klopp’s comments suggest that he will indeed be sold, with Leeds rumoured to be interested and Rangers likely to be frustrated in a cut-price attempt to bring him back on a temporary basis.

Kent, too, has previously claimed he is tired of continual loan moves and is eager to settle in a permanent role somewhere.

Whatever happens, we’re sure that the outcome will have been designed with the interests of all parties at heart.
