Klopp was interested in shock LFC move for Franck Ribéry, but on one condition

Franck Ribéry appeared on Jürgen Klopp’s radar as a potential incoming addition this summer after he departed Bayern Munich, according to a report from L’Equipe.

That suggestion was also subtended by Goal, who echoed the theory Klopp has been a long-term admirer of the Frenchman and considered a move for the 36-year-old on the basis of possible attacking departures.

Thankfully, it doesn’t seem like anyone will be leaving Anfield and it appears that this interest has since cooled, especially with Divock Origi penning fresh terms.

Despite Klopp’s Borussia Dortmund going head-to-head with Ribéry and Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga past, it seems those days sparked the German’s long-standing admiration of him.

Somewhat ominously, the Goal comments claim that “since there has been little movement in the Liverpool attack, no place has been freed up for Ribery to join.”

Where, exactly, were these movements to occur? Does an out-of-contract Ribéry fit into FSG’s policy? Was it perhaps akin to the rumoured pursuit of Max Kruse – a veteran, Bundesliga attacker able to pass on offensive wisdom and goalscoring know-how?

A transfer rumour such as this invariably throws up myriad questions. One thing is for sure though, the former Bayern winger would have offered experience and a winning mentality, but it seems consigned to the realms of unlikelihood.
