Jurgen Klopp says Liverpool will be looking to defend better against Manchester City than they managed against Napoli on Sunday in next weekend’s Community Shield.
The Reds were takan apart by Lorenzo Insigne in particular at times in Scotland, with Trent Alexander-Arnold exposed at full-back and Joel Matip caught out of position at times.
Defend like that again next weekend at Wembley and the Reds could be torn apart by Pep Guardiola’s side.
Speaking in his press conference ahead of the season curtain raiser – well in advance of the clash, presumably because the Reds are in Evian this week – Klopp pinpointed counter-attacks as an area that needs immediate improvement.
Klopp: We didn't defend counter attacks well yesterday. If that happened against City then you don't have a chance. But we know each other well enough to know it will be different next Sunday.

Klopp: If you don't defend well against City you could get a proper knock and we don't want that.

While the Community Shield is not the most important competition in the world, making a statement ahead of the new season could be crucial, especially with the last few results in pre-season not being that great.
It’s also the first chance of the campaign to get some silverware on the board – not a chance to be sniffed at.
