LFC could end up paying record, eight-figure sum for Elliott

Fulham hope Liverpool are made to break our own compensation record for Harvey Elliott.

Liverpool’s £6.5m package, plus 20% of the £20m fee we got for selling Danny Ings to Southampton, paid to Burnley, is the current highest ever deal of this kind.

But with 16-year-old Elliott refusing to sign a scholarship at Fulham this summer and joining Liverpool instead, a tribunal will decide on an appropriate fee for the teenager’s services.

According to the Standard, Fulham want at least £10m upfront, then a guaranteed percentage of whatever sell-on fee Liverpool eventually get for the wonderkid.

This is serious money, but perhaps when you consider Elliott was making first-team appearances for Fulham last season, may well be justified.

In fairness, we think it’s right that when bigger clubs poach youngsters from smaller ones, they need to be adequately financially rewarded.

£10m is not a huge sum anymore, and if Elliott gets anywhere close to fulfilling his potential, he’ll be worth far, far more than than in a few years’ time.
