Steven Gerrard’s Rangers losing battle to sign Daniel Sturridge as club emerge as favourites

Turkish team Trabzonspor are leading the chase for former Reds striker Daniel Sturridge, according to Fanatik.

Scottish sides Celtic and Rangers are both also interested in him, but cannot afford to match Trabzonspor’s offer of €2m a season after tax.

The 29-year-old forward will have plenty of offers, but the new season is edging closer and he is yet to finalise a deal to move somewhere.

A move to MLS might appeal to him in the sense that he already spends a lot of time in the USA, but he perhaps has another move in him before heading over there.

Working with Steven Gerrard would almost certainly be appealing, too, and he’d be great in the Scottish Premier League, but if that was to be a deal that was happening, it probably would have already gone through.

Gerrard would almost certainly want him, but affording Sturridge is a different question altogether.

It will be interesting to see where he goes next, and wherever it is, we – like all Reds fans – wish him all the best.
