Liverpool should consider a last-minute bid for Philippe Coutinho – opinion

As per the Mirror, Barcelona are looking to sell former Liverpool midfielder Philippe Coutinho this summer, but are struggling to find a club for him.

With just eight days of the transfer window remaining, I think the Reds should make a move for the Brazilian. Hear me out.

If the Mirror are to be believed, and Barcelona are struggling to find anyone to take Coutinho, they’d surely consider a cheeky offer from Liverpool.

Earlier this month, we covered a report by Italian outlet Calciomercato that suggested the Reds were willing to bring the Barca misfit back to Anfield on a two-year loan deal. That sounded a bit cheeky, and it could be a good way to go.

Our squad lacked in goals from midfield last season, and while Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will surely help this season, it’s Phil’s speciality.

The same Mirror report claims that Barcelona would be willing to accept an offer as low as £95million, but what if we low-balled them?

Maybe we say ‘we’ll give £80million – half now, and the other half in a year’ – if they’re truly desperate to offload him, even if just to get him off the books, will they not accept that?

I’m not sure, and I’m certainly not well versed when it comes to transfer dealings, but it’s surely something Liverpool should be looking at. Especially as it seems our interest in Nicolas Pepe was real, and he’s now set to join Arsenal instead.

This Liverpool team is obviously different from the one Phil played in two years ago, but there has to be a place in our squad for a player of his talent. Even though I think it’d be a good idea, I’m not convinced Klopp would be willing to splash almost £100million on a former player.
