Five players sent home from Reds’ training camp in Evian – with one notably staying with the squad

Sepp van den Berg, Ki-Jana Hoever, Bobby Duncan, Yasser Larouci and Adam Lewis have all been sent back to Merseyside to continue their new season preparations, according to the Liverpool ECHO.

Jurgen Klopp has decided there is no need for them to stay in Evian with the rest of the squad because he has too many players to work with. It was always the intention to trim the squad down later in the week.

Interestingly, though, Harvey Elliott is still there having joined the group when he arrived from Fulham a week or so ago.

Curtis Jones, Nat Phillips and Ben Woodburn – the latter of whom has since moved to Oxford United on loan – were all sent back to the Academy earlier in the week with Klopp only wanting a smaller group to work with, and the five are the next group to leave.

Now the likes of Roberto Firmino and Mo Salah are in full training, there is no need for all of the youngsters to be there, as none will feature in the Community Shield or the first Premier League game of the new season against Norwich City.

All five have had excellent pre-seasons up to now and can expect to be training at Melwood with the senior players again very soon. For now, though, they will be with the U23s.
