Jurgen Klopp offers latest update on Harry Wilson’s future

Jurgen Klopp says Liverpool are yet to decide what to do with winger Harry Wilson this summer – but insists whatever the decision will be, it will be the best thing for both the player and the Reds.

Borussia Dortmund were said to leading the chase for the Welshman earlier this week, while Bournemouth were linked with a £25 million move yesterday and Newcastle United and Aston Villa have also been credited with strong interest over the last few weeks.

Wilson provided a timely reminder of his quality with a stunning strike against Lyon, which you can watch by clicking here. After that game, Klopp provided an update on his future.

According to the Daily Star, Klopp said: “We are in constant conversations, that’s clear. We have to do the right thing for us and for the boy. There is nothing to talk about in public about it, so we will see what happens in the next eight or nine days until the window closes.

“He is obviously a really good player and I was really happy with him in the whole pre-season; he came back from Derby in a completely different [shape].”

It would seem to be an odd decision to give him so much time on the pitch yesterday if the intention was to let him leave, while with no new signings coming in, the Reds really could do with retaining him for the squad depth.

The only reason he will leave if is Wilson pushes for a move himself in order to get regular first-team football. That he hasn’t done that yet perhaps suggests he is erring on the side of staying put.

Having been at the club for well over a decade, not giving it one season with the Reds at first-team level might be something he would regret later in his career.
