Lyon boss waxes lyrical over Liverpool after friendly

Lyon manager Sylvinho was mightily impressed with Liverpool’s level during our friendly victory over the French on Wednesday night.

The Reds beat Lyon 3-1, which felt much needed following defeats to Borussia Dortmund, Sevilla and Napoli during pre-season.

Roberto Firmino got back on the score-sheet, and Harry Wilson smashed in a wonder-goal to seal the win – which hopefully will see us enter Sunday’s Community Shield clash with Manchester City full of confidence.

“Liverpool is an amazing team with an incredible coach as well,” he told the club’s official website. “They have very good players. It’s a very physical team (but) also technical.

“All you have to do is watch what they did last season. They played very well.”

On Sunday, we think we’ll select basically the team that won the Champions League Final bar Sadio Mane, who cannot play due to his AFCON run and will be likely replaced by Divock Origi.

That team is an exceptional one, especially considering Manchester City will be without Aymeric Laporte, their best centre-back – and will have to field John Stones and Nicolas Otamendi.

If Mo Salah and co. are on it, we’ll be able to cause that duo plenty of problems. That’s the plan, anyway!
