Robbo makes Liverpool/Spurs comparison & says Keita set to ‘kick on’

Andy Robertson is not worried by Liverpool’s lack of transfer activity this summer.

We’ve brought in central defender Sepp van den Berg (17) and prodigal playmaker Harvey Elliott (16) – but no players who will automatically step into the first-team or even our regular bench.

It’s led some fans online to criticise the management, which seems outrageous considering we got the third most points of any English side in the history of our domestic top flight last season – as well as winning football’s biggest prize, the European Cup.

Spurs, our opponents in the Champions League Final, also signed nobody last term – and Robbo makes the point that it didn’t make them struggle.

“The same got said about Tottenham last season, that they wouldn’t kick on without signings, but they went on and had a more successful season,” he told the Mirror.

“For us, the most important thing was keeping all our players, and we’ve managed to do that. have all stayed together, and that’s a big thing.

“It’s about sticking together and getting even more familiar with each other. We’ve had players that have been in their first seasons – Keita and Fabinho their first season is over now and they’ve settle in, so I’m sure they will be looking to kick on and so will everyone else.”

The Scot definitely makes a smart point about Fabinho and Naby Keita.

The Brazilian will be an automatic starter, but didn’t get in the side until approaching Christmas last term – while the Guinean is now settled, has a better grasp of the language and has bulked up physically.

On top of that midfield duo, we have Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain fully fit – with the Englishman unavailable for practically the entirety of last season.

Bring on the new campaign!
