Harry Maguire is finally set to make his move to Old Trafford from Leicester this summer for a reported £85million, as per the Telegraph, and everyone has an opinion on it.
The obvious comparison is Virgil van Dijk, as the England international replaces the Liverpool man as the most expensive defender of all time.
With somewhat of a fixation on the price Manchester United have paid for the centre half, some people have lost focus of the main thing here – a decent defender has strengthened one of our rivals.
Yes – the price tag is overblown and a bit daft, but money has never been something that has stopped United in the past. It’s a reason they are where they are now.
Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has given his thoughts on the move via social media. The man who made the 23 shirt famous called Maguire an inspiration.
Sheffield Utd, Hull City, Wigan (loan) & Leicester City….Now the worlds most expensive defender! What a journey & inspiration for young English players up & down the country!! #harrymaguire https://t.co/IHvJwkFsfu

Obviously, there were a lot of responses to Carra’s message – most replies were poking fun at Maguire and United, contrary to the former Liverpool man’s mild intentions.
Naturally, there were a lot of a Reds fans in the comments. Some people suggested the defender will soon join a Champions League club, if he plays his cards right, and others joked that he’s lucky to say he once played with Andy Robertson.
Imagine swapping a mid table team for another one 🤦🏻♂️🤣

He has every right to boast and be proud of the fact that he has played with Andy Robertson.

If he keeps up this astonishing progression, he will one day get a transfer to a champions league club.

Not an achievement, its a state of the market at the moment. Bubble about to burst.
